‘Arrow’ season 3: Stephen Amell shares insight on costuming after ‘Supergirl’ reveal
At this very moment, the majority of the internet is still very much buzzing on the recent “Supergirl” costume reveal. Whether you love it or hate it, you at least have an opinion about it. More than anything else, at least be happy that the powers that be over at CBS had a chance to really share the costume in the way in which they wanted.
This reveal also led to Stephen Amell sharing a very interesting story about what happened to him when he was preparing for his own “Arrow” costume to be made clear to the viewing public. In a post on Facebook, he explained just how much pressure there is in order to get this right, and how there was another show that set a scary precedent for them in this department prior to them beginning production:
“When Arrow began filming – late winter, 2012 – the very first thing I did after being cast was head for a costume fitting. There was concept art, but the producers had – smartly – left the basics open to interpretation based on who they put in the role.
“Several fittings and one defiant, “I’m not wearing army boots, it forces me to run like a business person trying to catch a bus” rant later, we were ready for the exact moment that the Supergirl peeps went through today: The unveiling. And why was this important? Because the year prior a superhero costume picture had leaked and there was a perception – you can debate how accurate it was – that this leak had gotten the production off on the wrong foot.”
We feel like Amell is referring here to the attempted “Wonder Woman” revival over at NBC with Adrianne Palicki in the lead role. This was a series that was highly suspected to be huge for the network, but for one reason or another, it just did not work out as all parties involved had hoped. Just for reference, that photo above is what we believe to be the first promotional image released for “Arrow,” and it was met with pretty positive reaction from the internet.
