‘Supergirl’ spoilers: See Melissa Benoist in costume for first time (photo)

Ready to see the arrival of “Supergirl”? Internet, brace yourselves! The CBS series has just unveiled its first photos of Melissa Benoist in the famous costume, and reaction is probably mixed already, to say the least.

On the positive side, we do like that the show is not necessarily doing anything too radical to change the mold. For example, we do at least have the familiar color scheme here of blue, red, and gold. Also, she still has the cape and skirt. For the most part there, we very much approve of almost everything. Now that we’ve said that, though, we do wonder a little when it comes to the color scheme. Why so dark? We’ve always thought that Superman and Supergirl were a bit of the brighter side of the DC universe, so we would’ve preferred to see a lighter shade of blue used here that was akin to the comics. Not everything has to have that same sort of “Man of Steel” look to it.

What we are away of, though, is that it would be a complete mistake for us to sit here and say that this show is going to be good or bad based mostly on costume alone. Both “Arrow” and “The Flash” were mocked upon their costume reveals by many, and these two shows probably are at present the best adaptations of any mainstream comic series to television to date. Why do you think that Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood designed this costume? She also did the ones for those two other heroes.

The earliest “Supergirl” could premiere is the fall, but we hope to have some other news related to the character and the show soon.
