‘The Good Wife’ season 6, episode 13 review: Alicia deals with campaign donors, Colin Sweeney

The return of “The Good Wife” Sunday night proved to be everything that we hoped it would be: Smart, complicated, and thoroughly entertaining throughout. It also made us realize further just how much politics can make you feel rather disgusting in the end.

Take, for example, what Alicia Florrick had to go through with Guy Redmayne. He was a valuable source of campaign income, but it also turns out that he is a sexist and a homophobe. Basically, suspicions over Frank Prady’s sexuality are really the only reason that Alicia managed to snag his endorsement in the first place, and he was incredibly awful to Prady the moment that he showed up. Money goes a long way for any campaign, but at the same time, this was clearly not the way in which Alicia wanted to get the money from him.

Elsewhere, there was also further Colin Sweeney madness this episode, mostly because Florrick / Lockhart / Agos had to wrestle with ensuring that he was in the clear after a TV program depicted him as a murderer and a terrible person. The only thing that we can say to all this is that regardless of your opinion on Sweeney, Dylan Baker is a fantastic actor and we’re thrilled anytime that we get a chance to see him on the show.

Overall, this episode was very strong. You had Kalinda acting as a bodyguard, Alicia tearing up in front of her own child over what she had to do, and her trying to do the right thing but not making personal attacks against Prady … or having a PAC do it, either. Grade: B+.
