Oscars 2015: Who makes host Neil Patrick Harris nervous?
The Academy Awards are almost here, and for many movie buffs, it is the highlight of the year.
For us, admittedly, we’re not as invested in that. We are so TV-focused (as is our site), we are mostly intrigued at what sort of entertainment and buzzworthy moments are going to come from the show. Some of these come out of pure accident (see “Adele Dazeem”), while others come from the host himself. This is where Neil Patrick Harris has a challenge Sunday night. This is the most scrutinized hosting gig in America, almost to the point where some snarky journalists probably have their headlines figured out before you ever go on stage. You really have to work to change their minds.
For Neil, who certainly has plenty of experience, it appears that he is not altogether worried about trying to please critics. Instead, he tells E! News that he will be nervous more about some of the people in attendance:
“[I’ll probably most nervous about] the crop of directors because I’m an actor too, right? So if I look and I see Clint Eastwood and he’s growling and scowling at me. ‘You will never work in this business as long as I live.’ That freaks me out. The actor people are fun. I get a little star struck by them but I think the Steven Spielbergs would make me quiver.”
Given that the majority of Harris hosting gigs have been pretty strong (we were not completely in love with his last Emmy gig), we’re not that nervous about how he will fare during the show as a whole. He has everything a good Oscar host should, and there has been plenty of time to make this great.
