‘American Idol XIV’ video: Loren Lott looks to win her way into top 24

Remember Loren Lott? While she had a little bit of screen time with her audition on “American Idol XIV,” we’d be lying if we were to sit here and say that she was always at the top of our list of contenders.

With that being said, she certainly brings it in a video below with a dramatic performance of Adele’s “Skyfall,” a song that has started to become somewhat widespread as a cover track on singing competitions. Do we think that this is a perfect rendition? Not by any means, since there are a couple of high notes that are a little unwieldy. Aside from that, though, she shows a tremendous sense of knowing how to perform this song, and her range in here is tremendous.

Sometimes, we worry about contestants who we feel are not at their full potential yet during their audition. Is there really enough time for them to meet that throughout the course of the season? There are only going to be so many opportunities for them to shine, and they have to figure out how to fix some of what ails them before that time. What we’re seeing from Loren here is someone who is putting in the work, and genuinely getting better as each round passes. This is someone that the other singers this season should be really worried about, given that if she continues this trajectory, she could be a major force by the end.
