‘The Voice UK’ review: Brooklyn, Claudia Rose, Hannah Wildes, Rozzy, and more audition

Voice -We are starting to have a little bit of a problem with “The Voice UK,” namely in that despite the whole premise of there being “unpredictable” blind auditions, the vast majority of them are very predictable. If the coaches can tell that you have an older voice, they seem far less inclined to turn around. Take, for example, how so many singers over 30 did not get a turn. It feels almost like even if they cannot see the contestants, they still have an idea of what they want. That’s somewhat dull.

As always, we’re going to focus here on the contestants who advanced … other than saying that there were one or two truly blasphemous decisions made to exclude some deserving contestants.

Newtion Matthews – Before Newtion even tried out, we saw a good reminder that will.i.am has been extremely choosy with the members of his team. Therefore, it felt almost like a given that he was going to turn for Newtion and his smooth, soulful voice.

Hannah Wildes – What a lovely, rich voice that she has. We love “All Good Things Come to an End” by Nelly Furtado, so we enjoyed this performance more than we can say. There were a few bum notes throughout, but this was as a whole so real and organic that it was hard not to thoroughly love this. Ricky managed to score her.

Karis Thomas – She’s interesting. She has a very unique sound, but more than anything else, you can tell that there is a sound and promise here. She can hit some seriously huge notes! We just have to figure out if this is something that she can do beyond just this round. She is a lovely audition to team Rita.

Stephen Cornwell – This dude is jacked. Like, bodybuilder jacked. The only people who we know who eat this many eggs are bodybuilders. His voice needs a little power, but we do get the sense that he really is committed to being the best he can. Another addition to Team Will!

Vikesh Champaneri – This was just a fun audition. We were not as emotionally moved as Ricky was by it, but we were very happy to see him land the singer on his team in surprising fashion.

Rozzy – Let’s hear it for Rozzy! She kind of looks like Miranda Hart, and she is that sort of underdog singer that we want to root for. Great voice, and a huge personality already. We hope she lasts for a while.

Brooklyn – Quite possibly the most current artist the show has ever had. She’s probably a better rapper than singer, but she can work on that. The audience was almost peer-pressuring her into picking Rita, but she made the right choice with Will. He has worked with so many artists like her.

Claudia Rose – Rita and Will are officially INSANE for not turning around. She is fantastic. A huge voice, a wonderful stage presence, and a likable personality, as well. As of right now, she’s one contestant that Simon Cowell will be very bummed out did not audition for “The X Factor.” SO good. Tom may have the winner on his team.
