‘Shark Tank’ preview: Bedjet, Drain Strain, Fresh Patch, Balm Chicky Balm Balm, Tom + Chee update
Tonight, “Shark Tank” is airing a new episode! Surprised? So were we. We are really not a fan of the all of a sudden schedule surprises, and we much prefer the show on Tuesday nights. Anything else just makes matters far too confusing for their own good.
With all of this being said, we are interested in seeing some of the products tonight, since we don’t really think that there is a dud in the group. All of these bring something to the table, whether it is a good idea or something that could be useful to a tiny percentage of the audience. Even the product that doesn’t really fill a need has a fun brand. Also, you get an update on Tom + Chee, which may be the most successful restaurant brand to come out of the show (it at least seems that way superficially).
Take a look at the synopsis below; note that the Sharks this week are everyone other than Daymond John:
“A man from Woodinville, WA will make sure the Sharks’ investment won’t go down the drain with his device to eliminate clogged sinks; a husband from Davenport, FL says his family’s future depends on getting a deal on his real grass delivery service for pets who have everything except their own backyard; two ladies from Portland, OR provide a worry-free way to share lip balm without sharing germs; and a man from Newport, RI can guarantee you won’t get cold feet if you use his climate control system designed for your bed. Also, an update from Corey Ward and Trew Quackenbush from Cincinnati, OH and Tom+Chee, their artisan cheese & glazed donut sandwich business.”
Now, let’s take a deeper dive into the products.
Bedjet – This product was backed on Kickstarter last year, and we love the idea. It is a way to get your bed nice and toasty for you, even if you are living somewhere with super-cold temperatures. It can also cool off your bed, as well. The product could be a little more flattering to look at, but if the function is there, it may be one of the smarter innovations that we’ve seen in the tank.
Balm Chicky Balm Balm – This feels like something you’d see at a gift shop in Palm Springs: A cheeky lip balm product with cool flavors and a “friend end,” where you can give some balm to your pal without spreading germs around. It’s cute and the website is well-designed, but there’s nothing altogether original about it.
Drain Strain – Not the sexiest product we’ve ever seen, but a brilliant idea. We’ve had this problem many times of a clogged bathtub drain, and it is a pain to either bring in a plumber, go buy something to unclog it, or get some makeshift-tool to fix the problem (isn’t that what hangers are for?). This is a drain with a tiny basket to catch all of the unwelcome stuff that can cause this problem. Thank goodness for Lori Greiner being on this episode; we would imagine these two being a perfect team. To be honest though, this product already exists and we bought it at the dollar store.
Fresh Patch – We do understand the idea of getting a fresh patch of grass sent to you in order for your dog to have somewhere to use the bathroom in the event you are not around, or if you live somewhere that can have really terrible weather (think the midwest this week). As a whole, though, we’re a big believer in taking your dog outside for walks and training them that way, then having an alternative inside as a last resort. Not sure we’d buy this under any other circumstance.
