‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: The enormous success of IMAX already
This just end: “Game of Thrones” is popular. Who would have guessed?
In all serious, everyone knew that the HBO show was going to be popular on IMAX screens. But this popular? That is something that is still very surprising. According to Entertainment Weekly, ticket sales continue to be very strong for the season 4 screenings that are happening this week, which also include the first trailer for the upcoming fifth season. They anticipated a spike initially in sales, but they have carried through and continued to perform well even after some of the initial rush first started to die down. all of this is a testament to its popularity, and as HBO head Michael Lombardo tells the website, the passion of fans to pay for something that they have effectively paid to see at least once before:
“If we were premiering the first episode of the new season in IMAX, I wouldn’t have been surprised ,,, But that’s not what we’re doing. It’s very heartening and surprising that people are willing to pay money and drive somewhere to re-experience a show they’ve already seen and now want to see again on a big screen with friends and family.”
We do understand the popularity here, since there is something to be said for watching a show with other passionate, like-minded people. This is not really an option for many people around the country when the show is actually airing. Also, they may want to have those bragging rights of seeing the trailer early, and being able to tell many of their friends all about it.
