Ratings: ‘Galavant,’ ‘Revenge’ season 4 struggle vs. AFC Championship Game; ‘Scorpion’ lower then expected

We really love “Galavant,” and it is with that in mind that we are starting to feel like it may be the recipient this year of the “most heartbreaking cancellation of the year” award. This is a show that actually got off to a fantastic start on ABC, but is being plagued mostly by it being incredibly difficult for the average viewer to stay caught up on.

Let’s look at the scheduling for it the past three weeks. When it premiered without crazy competition, it drew over a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Then, it plummeted down to a 1.3 against the Golden Globes, when we chart that it may have scored a 1.6 or 1.7 without that competition. (This is impossible to say, but shows tend to fall in the second week.) Following this, last night the show was up against the biggest part of the AFC Championship.

While we assume that later on in the night it was pretty clear that the Patriots were going to clobber the Colts, the game was still closer during the 8:00 p.m. Eastern hour. Therefore, the 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic for “Galavant” is a clear sign that the show suffered against football, and also probably due to people not seeing the show the week before. Who knows how it would fare without so many roadblocks? We don’t think there is zero chance for a renewal, but it needs a nice recovery in its finale next week.

Speaking of shows in trouble, “Revenge” at least recovered to a 0.9 a week after setting a series low. Basically it went from “horribly bad” to just “very bad.” This show still has a very rough road to renewal ahead for it.

Finally, “Scorpion” drew a preliminary 3.0 in the numbers last night after the big game, and while this is a nice improvement on typical ratings, we figure the blowout nature of this game really hurt sampling.
