Super Bowl XLIX: Idina Menzel to perform National Anthem on NBC broadcast
Over the past year and a half, “Frozen” has somehow managed to let in all of America on the not-so-secret secret that Idina Menzel is an incredible singer. After all, just look at some of the gigs that she has been getting lately. She sang at the Oscars, performed in the cold on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and now, she has quite possibly her most prominent role of all: Performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLIX.
It was Idina herself who first confirmed this big news in a post on her official Twitter account, saying that she is “humbled and excited” to be taking on the role at the big game this year. Specifically, she cited the 1991 performance of Whitney Houston singing the Anthem as one of her big inspirations for the occasion. We’ve seen a number of memorable performances of it over the years, and the majority of them have been great. There was that one notable Christina Aguilera snafu, but that was more about the lyrics than the music.
Menzel has been performing on Broadway while at the same time taking on all of these other gigs, but when her show closes later this year, we are quite curious about what she is going to do next. She has one of the most recognizable voices out there at the moment, and with that in mind, the world really is her oyster.
For those who have not heard the news yet, Katy Perry is going to be performing the Halftime Show this year, and there is going to be an appearance in here at some point from Lenny Kravitz – Which is really interesting because really, where has this guy been???
