‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 1 preview: Trixie’s surprise; Barbara Gilbert’s arrival

For all fans of “Call the Midwife,” we come bearing a pleasant reminder! The wait for new episodes is almost over! The series is going to be right back on the air starting on Sunday night to continue carrying on the stories of Nonnatus House, and there is quite a bit to look forward to. There will be new characters, and a chance to see many move forward with their lives.

Of course, there will also be hardships and sad times, but if you follow this series extensively, then you should also be very familiar with how these are at this point standard operating procedure for this show. You’re not always going to be smiling.

We’re going to get a little more in-depth with our coverage of the premiere over the coming days, but we figured it best to get things going right now with the official synopsis of the premiere. Take a look at that below:

“A chance encounter with an impoverished child forces Trixie to see an unfamiliar darker side of life. As Nonnatus House welcomes a new resident, Nurse Barbara Gilbert, Tom Hereward has a surprise romantic gesture in store for Trixie.”

Clearly, the start of this season is going to be big for the Trixie character, and some of what we hear suggests that her relationship may be getting more and more serious. Is she really ready for it? This is a question that she will have to ask herself over time, and hopefully, she will allow herself that space to think about it.
