‘Supergirl’ spoilers: CBS still working on casting, talks format

It’s not often that we spend so much time discussing a series that is not even on the air yet, but the reality here is that we’re talking about “Supergirl.” This is a huge DC Comics property coming to TV, and to go along with that, this is also one of the few female-fronted superhero shows out there. So to say that expectations are through the roof would be a terrible understatement.

So what does the head of CBS have to say about this right now? Nina Tassler spoke out at the winter TCA panel today, and made it clear first and foremost that there is no Kara cemented just yet. They have auditioned women for weeks, and some early indications are that they are leaning towards casting a lesser-known actor for the role. That may not be great news for those of you hoping to see Claire Holt in the part.

As for the format, remember here that this is CBS. Tassler confirmed that there will be a story-of-the-week component, but “the beauty of it is now with shows like Good Wife and Madam Secretary, you can have serialized story elements woven into a case of the week. She’s a crime solver, so she’s going to have to solve a crime. She’s going to get a bad guy.” Therefore, expect a little bit of balance.

We want to be psyched-up about this show, but we’re going to wait for a while because this is CBS, and we honestly still are unsure if the show will be a good fit on their network. We’d feel a little more comfortable of this was The CW, and they could introduce the character on either “Arrow” or “The Flash.” That would make things a little more seamless to us.
