‘Saturday Night Live’ re-watch: Jim Carrey, Kate McKinnon’s ‘Chandelier’ spoof reminds genius

SNL -Tonight, “Saturday Night Live” is replaying their episode hosted by Jim Carrey and with musical guest Iggy Azalea, and when going through the list of which sketch we wanted to spotlight in our re-watch series, the answer was obvious: It had to be the Sia – “Chandelier” video spoof. This, by and large, has to be our favorite sketch of the entire season so far.

The first thing that this sketch did that was so effective was capturing the skills of what Carrey does so well: Random physical comedy, and playing a big, obnoxious character. He didn’t work in every sketch, but he really killed it here just with his body movements and dance moves. Also, Kate McKinnon is a serious scene-stealer in almost everything she does. There was no doubt she would kill this.

Of course, some of the individual highlights include Carrey seemingly having a fake baby at one point, the two going into other sets from the episode, and the random cameos from both executive producer Lorne Michaels and Azalea, who is also in on the fun.

All of this ends with a pretty great closing bit, where the host of the costume party Carrey and McKinnon are attending (Vanessa Bayer) decides to award the best costume prize to Aidy Bryant, who is not wearing a costume and is merely a “woman trying her best.”

Typically we like to close these articles with the video of the sketch, but for some reason it’s been made private on YouTube and we haven’t found it on an official channel. Maybe it only had the rights to the song for a certain period of time, since there are older “SNL” videos out there. That’s a shame; there are other versions out there if you look hard enough, but we try not to share anything here unless it is from the original source.
