‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 spoilers: Premiere date hopes, more for Michelle Dockery, cast
Tonight, “Downton Abbey” season 5 officially came to a close in the form of a Christmas Special that brought plenty of information, surprises, and a very long run time. Too long, probably. Can’t most of these specials tell the story as effectively in 20-30 less minutes?
Anyway, there is no reason to fear about the show going off the air forever. New episodes of the series are going to start airing on ITV in the fall, most likely in September. Why the wait? It is as simple as the fact that the new season has not started to film yet, and will not for a few more weeks. The sixth season will once again further along the story, but as for whether or not it is the last, that still remains to be seen.
If nothing else, at least be assured that most of the cast members are going to be back, including Michelle Dockery (Mary), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora), and others.
One thing that we are going to be very curious to hear more about in the coming days is the status of a certain Allen Leech. Tonight’s episode gave us a strong suggestion that he is leaving the show, and if he were to stay, it would almost feel like much of it was a waste of time tonight. We figure that he could still make periodic appearances if he is gone, though, which does make this a very different situation than what happened with Dan Stevens in the most depressing Christmas Special ever.

Bring in Penelope Keith in Season 6 as a “Margo” type countess, some brash character from the stage, to pester Maggie Smith.

Tom must stay and fall in love with Edith or Daisy (if they bring that school teacher back again I think I may have to quit watching!) And bring back Matthew – just do a dream like in the old Dallas series, or bring him back as a look alike cousin – whatever, just do it!! We’ll all forgive the poor writing to have Matthew back! Matthew & Mary were the shining stars, the next Robert & Cora; what a mistake to take them away.
I would watch this show forever but please don’t get rid of the main folks and for Heaven’s sake, enough of the murder saga for Bates and Anna…. geesh!! And for pete’s sake Carson and Mrs Hughes belong together… at long last.

Fellowes should not have caved in to popular pressure. Carson and Mrs. Hughes should stay platonic. Does everyone have to get coupled up like “Beverly Hills 90210?” Dumb move.

Was Matthew Goode’s too short & mysterious presence (“not at this level…fluke…next time I won’t be so cavalier”) a teaser? Why was the estate manager somewhat evasive about his cousin the new Lord Hexham who’s supposed to be away in Africa? Writing rule says only mention that which moves story forward. Can’t wait yet must 8-(.

I’m not sure Julian Fellowes obeys writing rules ;)
