‘Homeland’ season 5: Is the series close to its end?

Season 4 of “Homeland” was in many ways a creative comeback. While not everyone in the media emerged as an enormous fan of all that the show pulled off (especially when it comes to the finale), there were plenty that were. Thanks to this, there is a new-found sense of purpose that Carrie and company could continue to go strong on Showtime for quite a while.

Will that be the case? For the time being, we know that there is no immediate plan for the show to end. Speaking on this particular subject to The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime head David Nevins explained very carefully that this is a show that wants to ensure that the story is consistently great, and so long as that happens, there is no plan to say goodbye:

“I think Homeland is ultimately a show about a complicated woman with a complicated job that she does really well. That story isn’t going away. How does the CIA function in the world? What does it mean to be a CIA agent in the world? That’s not something that will lose its relevance. It will just be a question of how long the writers want to keep going, and their ability to stay ahead of current events and engage with current events. I think, at it’s core, what made this season good was that it was about how complicated America’s position in the world is.”

We feel like there are probably two more years at least for the show, given its ratings and the recent critical acclaim. Once you get to the point where actors need to renegotiate (which is typically after season 6), things start to get a little messier.
