‘Fargo’ heads to Hulu Plus before season 2 premiere
Hulu continues to add to its already-beefy roster of shows, and today, they are doing so by adding a pretty big one in “Fargo.”
The service has officially scored the exclusive rights to the MGM Television – FX Productions program, and will start streaming the first season on its Hulu Plus service at some point in 2015, prior to the show’s second-season premiere on FX.
In a statement, Hulu’s head of content Craig Erwich had the following to say:
“MGM has been our longtime partner and is a consistent distributor of premium content … After announcing our landmark output deal with FX Productions yesterday, this expanded partnership with MGM brings even more hit titles to Hulu.”
Scoring exclusive series is one of the many big steps that streaming services are now taking, with Hulu and Netflix both being extremely competitive in scoring rights. These are incentives obviously to get consumers to subscribe to them, but we feel in this case, “Fargo” may be one of the bigger coups for Hulu. It gives them a bona fide hit show that is critically acclaimed, and also completely perfect for binge-watching.
While you could argue in a way that subscribing to Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to watch / stream every show you want starts to get a little expensive, it is probably still cheaper than a standard cable package, at least for people who would use this as some sort of a replacement. The only bummer is that you do have to wait a little longer to watch new programming.
