‘MasterChef Junior’ finale review: Was Samuel or Logan the season 2 winner?

Tonight, “MasterChef Junior” ended its second season with a showdown between two of the series’ most interesting and creative contestants in Samuel and Logan. Each came a long way this season, challenged themselves, and had their fair share of highs and lows.

Critically, we do have to say that this is a show that sometimes does leave a few things to be desired in the finale. The structure of it just feels so formulaic at this point: You have the cool-looking kitchen, the onlookers, and then the really long time spent listening to the judges mostly compliment things. It really feels like these episodes could be half an hour, and very little time would be wasted even then. We wish that the show would do something to at least shake things up somewhat here.

Before the episode, we would have given the edge to Samuel, but by a narrow margin. With kid contestants being so unfiltered and energetic, it’s hard to really figure out who is getting a winner’s edit or who will compete will at a given time. Nerves are also a big factor here.

After the episode, the underdog story was complete! Through some careful planning, Logan was the champ! He did have the closer thing to a winner’s edit, but we thought at times Samuel’s confidence was a way to almost give us reverse psychology as a viewer. Both have a big future, but Logan probably was the right winner for this season. He was humble, energetic, and he really improved by leaps and bounds throughout. Well done.
