‘The Walking Dead’ spin-off will be a prequel, focus on apocalypse’s early days
Well, how about this for some controversy? When we first heard about “The Walking Dead” getting some sort of companion series, we were at least reasonably optimistic that it would be great.
Now that we are starting to get a few more assorted details, we are not entirely sure that we are as stoked about this as we once were. What’s the reason for that? One word: “Prequel.” This comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, which further helps to explain how this is going to revolve around the early days of the zombie apocalypse.
Now, a part of us wants to be hopeful that this means that we will get a much more interesting take on how all of this began, but at the same time, we kind of like it being a mystery! The biggest issue we have with it being a prequel is that it almost guarantees that we are not going to see anything here really turn the tide when it comes to the apocalypse, even if you are accommodating for some sort of ripple effect that would take a potential cure a while to reach Rick and company. There are limitations to a prequel, and we don’t exactly feel like the show really needs one.
We also feel like there is a difference between a preview to a world like that in “The Walking Dead,” and what AMC is doing with “Better Call Saul.” We already know and can count on one of the cast members there. Here, nobody knows!
