‘Longmire’ season 4 notes: On Netflix, DVDs, and further speculation
With tonight being the latest “Longmire” social-media stampede, doesn’t it feel like the right time to bring back some of our notes? We certainly think so.
Let’s begin here with the reminder of the breaking news from last week: Netflix is in discussions with Warner Horizon about picking up the show. Why did this news get out in the first place? We’re going to speculate that regardless of the source here, it was most-likely intended to apply some pressure so that a deal would get done. If the two sides were not close, there is zero chance that we would have heard a report about it at all. Nobody would want to get the hopes up of the fan base only to let them down later. This report is a big signal of hope, even if the reality remains that the deal may still not happen … though if it doesn’t, we almost expect another article come out so that the public can have a side in particular to blame.
DVD Sales – If the show does get picked up, season 4 would start filming in March … which is right around the time that the season 3 DVD will hit stores! Amazon has the disc listed for a March 3 release, and it would be great to be able to watch that knowing that there is more good stuff still to come.
We hope that this would be around the same time that the new episodes hit Netflix, though we know that some studios like to delay that a little to capitalize on DVD sales first. In this case, though, we’d argue that adding them to the service sooner rather than later is a good thing. That could bring more attention to the show over a longer period of time, and hopefully win over some new fans, as well. Netflix doesn’t release any of their viewership data, so it will be hard to tell its performance if it is picked up. The best thing that you can do is recommend the series!

I know I’m greedy, but I sure hope whomever picks it up it will be a multiyear deal. Wishful thinking I am sure. Can’t hurt to hope!
