ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7: Stana Katic unsure of status going into season 8
We knew that this was going to be coming up eventually, but now it is here: Questions regarding the future of “Castle” on ABC.
Let’s just lay all of the cards out on the table right now. The show has had seven great seasons, and in that time, the Castle – Beckett relationship has evolved to the point where the two now are married. They’ve come a long way, but you could argue that there is still story to tell. There are always going to be villains, after all, that need to be taken down in New York City. The question is just if this cast will be there for it.
Stana Katic is aware that her and Nathan Fillion’s contracts expire this year, and it will take negotiations to get the two parties back. While it is understandable for many to automatically think about money as the only important factor in negotiations, the actress insists to TVLine that she will think more creatively when making her choice as to stay or go:
“If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it’s better to stop when you’re on top, because I admire the way that they did that with The Wire, you know? Tell a great story and then go home and move onto something else. Don’t milk it ‘just because.’ So for me it’s about art over finance, and as long as we’re creating something that is compelling and that has somewhere to go, then we’re good to go. And when we find that we’re not, when we don’t have anywhere else to go, then it’s time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing. But I don’t know where it’s going to end.”
“Castle” is not a show that will go on forever like a “Law & Order: SVU,” and there probably is an ending on the relative horizon for it. Our personal feeling would be to give it one or two more seasons after this one, and then have a proper final season. The last thing we want is for the show to end with a whimper like a “CSI: Miami” or another show that was suddenly canceled. A “Castle” final season could include big battles with notorious villains, and also a reprisal of some of the best guest-stars we’ve seen over the years.

I went to a management seminar where everyone wAs asked to define success. Everyone but me equated success to money – more money = greater success. I said no it is not correct because you eliminate 95% of the USA population. Set attainable challenging goal for yourself and work to attain them. Set more goals and attain them. Etc. Judge your success by the number of goals you attained. Also judge your success by the recognition by your peers that you are outstanding at what you do. To keep doing the same thing with some recognition is not to Beckett success and I agree.
