‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Now featuring Woody Harrelson, Kate McKinnon, and Kendrick Lamar
We are just a day away from this weekend’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and we’re still pretty darn unsure about what we are going to see out of host Woody Harrelson / musical guest Kendrick Lamar.
We suppose that we’ll start here with the likely positives that could come out of this show, and that is seeing Harrelson really establish himself as a worthy comedic performer. We haven’t seen him in that sort of role in a while, and mostly “True Detective” is what we have ingrained in our head … even if he is done so much more than that.
To us, the surprise of the promo below comes via Lamar. The rapper is actually involved in both comedic bits, and while neither one of them is hilarious, it’s nice to see that he is game to have a little bit of fun. This is a side that we don’t often see from the few hip-hop performers we get to see on the show, but maybe that is starting to change. After all, Drake did a ton of silly stuff when he hosted, and Iggy Azalea had a brief moment in the great “Chandelier” video spoof that was put on during the Jim Carrey show.
Also featured in this promo? Kate McKinnon, arguably the most-underused person on the entire season so far. We’d love it if “Weekend Update” this episode contained both an appearance from her Olga character and also the return of Jebidiah Atkinson, the great Taran Killam part who has not appeared so far this season.
