Is ‘The Amazing Race 25,’ ‘Hawaii Five-0,’ or ‘Blue Bloods’ season 5 new tonight?
Typically, this is the time in which we would be on CarterMatt preparing for most of CBS’ lineup of Friday shows. After all, we cover “The Amazing Race,” “Hawaii Five-0,” and “Blue Bloods” all pretty religiously.
However, there are some reasons why this is not happening right now, and the biggest one is simply that there are no new episodes of any of these shows tonight. Why? The network is airing the Hollywood Film Awards, which is admittedly a ceremony we care very-little about. There are already a dozen or so other movie awards, so why another one? We feel like the Golden Globes, the various guild awards, and the Oscars really sum up everything that needs to happen.
With that being said, the network is hardly taking that much of a risk when it comes to this scheduling, mostly because of the recent ratings for their lineup. “The Amazing Race” has sputtered ever since moving to Fridays, while “Hawaii Five-0” and “Blue Bloods” have always skewed extremely old. Sooner or later, we figure that CBS may make some sweeping changes to this time, but for the time being, they may not care too much. After all, they tend to cater to an older demographic for the most part than their other broadcast rivals, and it’s hard to see any of their other shows doing a whole lot better in these spots.
Next week, all three series will be back on with new episodes, and will stay that way for at least the next few weeks. Therefore, stay tuned for some extensive coverage, including video previews and more!

This is a fair assessment of CBS’ Friday lineup…unfortunately. There’s no secret that I am a complete H50 fan, and my show is stuck between two other series that I can take or leave…and usually leave.
It will be interesting to see if there is any uptick in ratings for H50 when Undercover Boss returns in January. H50 usually brought in 1.4 averages following UB last season.
I agree that there are not many other current CBS dramas that could possibly bring better Friday ratings…that CBS would be willing to sacrifice, that is. POI, NCIS:LA and Elementary, the 3 main dramas that are not bringing the ratings gold on their respective nights would be hard put to bring mid ones in Friday. Elementary is fairing so incredibly poorly right now, it’s matching H50’s demo and bringing in 3 million less viewers on a weeknight at 10pm as compared to a Friday night at 10pm (BB).
I know, I know! Elementary ratings don’t matter as it’s got a sweet syndication deal and will stay on at least until it’s episode numbers are high enough…but just how low will CBS be willing to let it fall? Would CBS be willing to put it on Fridays where it would help the schedule at all?
