‘The Fall’ season 2 premiere review: Stella Gibson, Paul Spector continue the chase

“The Fall” season 1 left us with a pretty big cliffhanger as Stella and Paul had their first real interaction on the phone. Paul is still on the loose, and has managed to convince his wife to stay with him. Stella feels that she is starting to understand him better and is closing in on him, but Paul has been pretty careful (for the most part) so far and after everything that happened last season, he is taking even more precautions to make sure he isn’t caught.

The show told a fascinating beginning, middle, and end tonight, as Gibson continued her hunt for Paul Spector in Belfast, only to not realize that he continued to be not only a step ahead of her, but also ready to capture Rose, who tried to make a move against him.

This episode was accented mostly by subtlety, dark colors, and turmoil that comes with the time that we’ve seen Gibson put into this manhunt so far. You could see exhaustion settling in on her face near the end of this episode, and this is only the premiere.

Gillian Anderson was once again stellar in the main role, but kudos have to go once again to Jamie Dornan. He makes Paul layered in an interesting way, as you can understand why some would want to believe in him and what we is saying. However, at the same time you know better, and his history proves it.

With Dornan taking on the role of  Christian Grey in the upcoming movie “50 Shades of Grey”, we were worried about his schedule becoming crazy busy leaving him less time to give to his role on “The Fall”, but he’s managed to find a way to do it all and we couldn’t have been happier with his performance tonight. The pace was a little stagnant at first, but one it started to get going, the strength of these actors and the writing was all the more clear. Episode Grade: B+.
