‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 Christmas Special spoilers: Michelle Dockery, Matthew Goode collide
One of the casting tidbits that may have slipped under your radar over the past few months is the one that Matthew Goode, who is currently a major part of “The Good Wife” as Finn, is going to be a pretty significant part of the season 5 Christmas Special of “Downton Abbey.”
Now, we have some news that lets us know how significant he will be. As first reported by TVLine, Goode is going to play a possible love interest for Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), which means that it is certainly feasibly he could be around for season 6.
The little snag that comes into play here? “The Good Wife” holds the option to bring him back first, so anything he does for the ITV series would have to be scheduled around his other work. The one bit of good news we can remind you of here is that the two shows only have a few months of overlap, and seemingly, Goode could go over and do some of the latter episodes of “Downton Abbey” next season without interfering with the schedule of the CBS show at all.
Still, we think we may be getting ahead of ourselves here. We still have to see what happens between his character and Lady Mary this Christmas … or in March, which is around when the finale for this season will air in America on PBS.
Mary has already tried her hand at romance on “Downton Abbey” this season, but (spoiler alert!) not all went according to plan. After trying to form an unusual relationship with Tony Gillingham, she eventually decided that he was better off with his old fiancee. Her relationship with Charles Blake, meanwhile, has become more of a friendship.
