‘Top Chef: Boston’ episode 4 review: Emmy Rossum and the great menu challenge

Top Chef -We really cannot imagine that anyone will remember this past episode of “Top Chef: Boston” when it comes to content. There was a fun Quickfire at the real-life Cheers, but then an Elimination Challenge so forgettable, the editors hyped up for weeks like there was this big gluten-free controversy with Emmy Rossum.

Instead, all that was really about was Katsuji stupidly giving the “Shameless” actress ravioli filling rather than preparing a real gluten-free substitute, which reminds us that he is probably going to be that chef this time around who makes it way further than he really should. He won the Quickfire, but seems to be fairly limited outside of his comfort zone.

As for the rest of the contestants, they took part in a menu-building challenge for an Italian restaurant that mostly produced a slight variant on the same thing. There was nothing insanely creative, almost like nobody wanted to put themselves out there in case they messed up royally. The two chefs who went home in James and Rebecca just mostly didn’t do enough with their dishes, which were fairly unexciting to begin with.

The reason that Katsuji was on the winning team was mostly because the public loved their menu more than anyone else’s, and Aaron and Gregory also did an awesome job with their own food.

Hopefully, we’re going to get a little more when it comes to interesting competition moving forward. If there is something to celebrate entertainment-wise based on what we had here, it is mostly that all of the people with real TV time are still a part of the competition. The only people sent home were the forgettable ones. Episode grade: C
