‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 8 (finale) preview: Lily James featured in Rose’s wedding dress
Who doesn’t love a wedding to close off a season of TV? This is something that all fans of “Downton Abbey” should expect in the upcoming season 8 finale, which is going to feature a particularly big moment when it comes to Lady Rose.
The first photo above is of Lily James as a bride for the ITV series, which is meant to be reflective of what brides actually would have worn during this time. Atticus Aldridge is her beau, and the two have done the best that they possibly could already to embrace a little bit of their rebel spirit. After all, this wedding ceremony is in itself produced as the result of a whim, and a desire for the characters to go ahead and get married quickly, rather than have to deal with family drama that would eventually tear the two of them apart.
Speaking on the subject of designing this dress in a new interview with the Radio Times, costume designer Anna Mary Scott Robbins takes us through what went into finding the right piece:
“Lady Rose would have had her wedding dress made especially for her big day, so I was anticipating having to make something from scratch. As it happened, we had the biggest stroke of luck … The dress she wears is a completely original piece that we unearthed in a vintage shop in immaculate condition. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when we found it and when Lily James put it on, it was one of those perfect moments you don’t get that often in your career.”
There are rumors that James may be leaving the show soon, but that will probably not be addressed in the finale. After all, there is also still a Christmas Special coming up where such topics can be breached to a further effect.
