‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: What Jay James, Only the Young, Stevi Ritchie will sing

Stevi Ritchie -The latest episode of “The X Factor” carries with it a somewhat-unusual theme in Queen vs. Michael Jackson, and what we are left to wonder here is why. Don’t you want some of these singers to feel the least big current? It is next to impossible to achieve this when at the same time, you are having them all perform songs that are extremely dated, and not that interesting to younger viewers.

Still, this is what the producers have chosen, and we just have to roll with it. With that in mind, let’s go ahead and share the choices for the week, just as we have on many occasions recently.

Stevi Ritchie, “Bohemian Rhapsody” – This could actually be okay for Stevi! IT is operatic enough that it suits his voice reasonably, and is probably the only song from either category that he could do without looking like a hot mess.

Paul Akister, “Don’t Stop Me Now” – Given that we already saw Stevi do this song, what’s the point of doing it now? The only reason we can think of is for the obvious “I’m having such a good time lyric,” which is a way of digging at Simon Cowell’s recent comments.

Andrea Faustini, “Somebody to Love” – This could be very good for Andrea. If nothing else, he won’t be performing it in gold face-paint. (So we hope.)

Stereo Kicks, “You Are Not Alone” – We understand the song choice, but doesn’t it seem odd to anyone else that you have eight people singing this? Who are they singing it to? Did each person pick someone? So many questions?

Ben Haenow, “Man in the Mirror” – We really like this pick for Ben. It’s a little different, and we’d feel almost bummed if he did Queen given that it is so on-the-nose for him. This is a chance to really showcase some of his other vocal flavor.

Only the Young, “Blame It on the Boogie” – Like many of their performances, they are going to be the arbiters for whether or not this is really fun, or really cheesy. Their songs almost always fall into this.

Lauren Platt, “I’ll Be There” – This is going to be tough. We have faith that Lauren can pull it off, but she is basically going to have to be perfect in order to do it. Let’s hope she has a better week in rehearsals.

Fleur East, “Will You Be There” – Given that she did the King of Pop last week, we would’ve preferred that she switched over and did Queen for this show. With that being said, she’ll probably kill it.

Jay James, “The Show Must Go On” – We have no idea what he is going to do with this. Then again, we’ve felt that way about a variety of the songs that we have seen him perform so far this season.
