Kathy Griffin offered spot on ‘Fashion Police’; could she do it after Joan Rivers’ death?
Well, it turns out that the rumors were definitely true: Kathy Griffin was at one point offered a chance to host “Fashion Police” in the wake of Joan Rivers’ death.
As for whether or not she would actually take the job, that is an entirely different story, and something that she is still trying to figure out. Speaking in a new interview with “Access Hollywood,” Griffin expressed some ambivalence over whether or not she should go to E! and continue something that Rivers made into a brand over time:
“I don’t know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time … I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan’s work. She brought a fearlessness and a brand of humor into our homes that we really need.”
What really makes all of these rumors frustrating is that some of the tabloid stories from weeks ago may make it harder for Griffin to eventually take the role if she ever does actually want it. Personally, we feel like she would be great at it, and she would keep the sort of humor alive on TV that Joan would be proud of. The only challenge for her professionally is trying to perform in that shadow, and there would be a whole lot of pressure put on her in the process.
Still, we’re sure that E! will find someone to fill a comedy role on the show before January, which is when the Golden Globes happen and they will bring the coverage back in the way that they have in the past.
What do you think: Should Kathy opt to take on the gig, or is she really better off allowing someone else to give it a go? Share your thoughts right now with a comment, and head over here to get some other updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo via E!.)
