Ratings: Are ‘Constantine,’ ‘Grimm’ already in danger?
We feel like for Halloween, you almost have to put an asterisk on almost everything that airs. There is quite a bit of competition, especially when you are a show that is really catering to the young crowd like “Constantine” or “Grimm” does.
For these two NBC series, we ultimately had a case of less-than-stellar news Friday. In the case of “Grimm,” it hit a series low with just a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is the first time the series has ever aired on Halloween, and it should be spared from doing this again unless it goes on a “Supernatural” like run and lasts forever. Given that the show has a syndication deal at TNT, we cannot see it getting canceled this year. NBC will likely want to give it another year and see if that extra sampling helps it at all. This helped “Supernatural,” and even “The Big Bang Theory” when its repeats started airing on CBS.
As for “Constantine,” there is a greater cause for concern. A 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic is not good for a second episode, and hopefully it will get back over a 1.0 for November. We do feel like the timeslot will at least guarantee the series gets to air 13 episodes no matter what; it probably needs to average close to a 1.0 to have a shot at renewal, but a 0.9 will keep it on the air.
The only way we see this series getting pulled early is if it starts to descend to a 0.5 rating, which is exactly what “Utopia” got over on Fox for the night. That “brand new start” is going to be over very soon.

The only show that managed to make me stay at home on a Friday night was Dracula. NBC screwed the pooch when they cancelled it. Now there’s nothing on tv worthy of my time.
