‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, episode 4 review: Stefan and Elena’s journey; a Zach Salvatore shock
You knew that it was only a matter of time before Elena on “The Vampire Diaries” realized her feelings for Damon, right? She may have compelled him out of her mind, but that didn’t mean that everyone else managed to get Alaric to do the same exact thing.
As a matter of fact, one of the biggest pulls behind Thursday night’s “Black Hole Sun” was Stefan revealing the truth to her, and it came after the two had a lengthy jaunt in which he made it clear just how he was intended to live his life, and deal with what has to be considered an overwhelming amount of grief. While we don’t condone most of his strategies here, at the same time, we also feel somewhat like they are healthier than Elena just trying to forget.
Elena did take a look at her old memories tonight, but decided instead of actually studying them, she opted to try to move forward … for now. While she may feel sadness, it does not consume her in the same way that it could.
The major side story this week revolved once again around dealing with sadness, but this time, they person dealing with it for the most part was Jeremy. He was acting out, which put Alaric into a total frenzy to figure out how to help him. Was this one of Matt Davis’ better angry tears that we’ve seen on the show? We’re certainly having a hard time right now trying to think of one that is better.
We’d have a better time dealing with Alaric if we were Jeremy than Sarah, though, given that she has learned the truth about her ties to Zach Salvatore. Not only that, but she is going to use her knowledge of vampires to threaten.
As for the adventures of Damon and Bonnie, we learned through Kai that they were stuck more in his world than theirs, and also that this guy was a sociopath and a pretty horrible human being … though it’s not exactly like they have a whole lot of choices when it comes to company.
Overall, this was a pretty fantastic episode of the show, and one that contained a pretty terrifying villain in Kai that Damon and Bonnie are almost forced to help in order to go home. It’s basically a choice between selfishness and the good of the outside world, and that is hardly an enviable position. Grade: B+.
