‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: John Barrowman, Stephen Amell on hard truths for Thea
This is going to be how Malcolm Merlyn bonds with her in some bizarre way, and something we’ll see more of in Wednesday night’s new episode “Corto Maltese.” Speaking to TVLine, John Barrowman explains that the Dark Archer has built his relationship with Thea on honesty, and as weird as their relationship may be, there is something deeper there:
“You’re going to look at it and go, ‘This is too uncomfortable, but I really want to [keep] watching it because it’s like a car crash.’ … [However bizarre the relationship may be], there is a genuine love there and caring for her, but he wants her to be strong. He wants her to be able to stand on her own two feet.”
Meanwhile, the strategy that Malcolm uses on Thea may in turn cause Oliver to rethink his own as he tries to figure out how in the world to get his sister back to Starling City. As Stephen Amell tells the website, he has to consider whether or not he can use his same-old arguments to get Thea on board with him:
“He comes to the realization that the only way to bring her home when it was lies that drove her away is to tell her the truth … How much of the truth he has to tell her is one of the crucial points of the episode.”
