‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 5 preview: Michelle Dockery’s Mary and confusion

There is something very cinematic about the latest “Downton Abbey” season 5 photo that we have today, which highlights Michelle Dockery’s character of Lady Mary in a position of deep thought. Just what exactly is she thinking about? That is one of the interesting questions we could see you having at this very moment. (Warning: spoilers ahead for Americans!)

It feels like for a matter of many weeks now, we have routinely heard stories about how this is going to be the week where Mary finally chooses what she wants to do with her romantic life … but this may finally be it. Lord Gillingham was the subject of a great runaway relationship, but there seems to be something missing there. For a long time, we thought that these two were meant to be!

However, we’ve since moved over to being Team Charles Blake, mostly because there is something much more fascinating and challenging about this particular man. He does not play all of his cards away from the vest, and there is a certain feeling that also exists here where it seems like Mary is going to have to win him over, versus him just being ready to woo her at almost every move.

Of course, one other interesting thing to consider here is that maybe neither of these guys are perfect for Mary at all, and there will have to be another character in the future who turns out to be right for her.
