MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4 spoilers: Thoughts on Jenna, Matty, possible endings

What is interesting about having the information now that “Awkward” will end after its fifth season is that we have a chance to really speculate on what the end of the road will be. The show’s probably not going to go on very long past high school, but we can still speculate on what we could see the next phase of the characters’ lives being.

One thing does seem to be clear for the Jenna Hamilton character: Being with Matty is most-likely the endgame. This is the foundation of the show, and it is also what some on it seem to be rooting for. For example, series star Nikki DeLoach (who plays mom Lacey) explained to TVLine that it is one of her most-desired conclusions to see the two together:

“There are actually two endings I’d be happy with: One of them would be both Jenna and Matty going to college and staying together. The other ending I’d be happy with is if they decide to go to college and live their lives, then catch up with each other in five years and see what happens. It would be great to see Jenna standing on her own strength without a boy and without her parents.”

To us, we actually would like to see a combination of the two endings. We do feel like it is important to show Jenna standing on her own two feet, but at the same time you can still do that and have someone in your life. Perhaps the dream situation here would be to end the show with Jenna and Matty together, but in a way where it is clear that she wants him, and doesn’t necessarily need to have him around.
