ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4, episode 3 review: Harrison’s killer revealed; Olivia’s awkward dinner
“Scandal” likes to paint a world where nothing is sound or particularly clear, and even members of some of the highest courts can be persuaded with threats.
In one of the biggest moves for the David Rosen character so far, he basically used some evidence about a judge’s past in order to ensure that Fitz’s tighter gun-control legislation did not get completely destroyed. Unfortunately, the death of the judge later (a suicide) puts the blood firmly all over David’s hands.
As for the Mellie story, let’s just say that this was all kinds of sad. She put so much time and energy into trying to be detective for a headline-news case, and she even organized a meeting with some of the top people in Washington to discuss her theories. Unfortunately for her, the case was resolved a little earlier in the day, so all of her work was basically for nothing.
As for Olivia Pope, most of the story for her was spent watching her trying to keep her head above water. things were falling apart around her courtesy of OPA’s continued struggles, and also her non-relationship with Jake. At first, he was understandably reluctant to dine with Olivia and Rowan, but he eventually changed his mind … mostly to out that Rowan was the killer of Harrison, and that he had to leave as soon as possible to the island.
This episode suffered at times from being a little too all-over-the-place, but you can still rejoice that this was still “Scandal.” Sometimes, being this show with all of its gravitas is enough, and Shonda Rhimes still knows how to surprise. Grade: B-.

The non-relationship with Jake is just Jake’s frustration with not being number one. I don’t blame him keeping Pope at bay. I don’t know why but I’m getting the sense that their relationship is not too different from the Rhett Butler/Scarlett O’Hara relationship. A relationship in which Olivia’s focus on Fitz will be this delusional focus and when she finally has full access of him she will realize he is just as her father indicated a boy in big man’s pants.
By then Jake will have moved on. But that sums up Olivia’s life, is it not?

I Partially Agree:
but, in the Olitz circumstance a big difference is that President Fitz, unlike the character Ashley really and deeply Loves Olivia(Scarlett). And Olivia unlike Scarlett really loves Fitz; whereas, Scarlett never really loved Ashley she loved an ideal of him that she fantasized and in the end life revealed, that Ashley could not truly satisfy who Scarlet in nature truly was, instead the dashing “bad boy” Rhett/(Jake) was the true mate for Scarlett’s heart.
However, in Olivia’s case I think Fitz is a good “mate” for her, but the continuous extreme conflicts and turmoils hazard wearing away that Love and Olivia’s heart may finally crave Jake and yield to the Love that can truly be them as a couple. Because, Jake in his own mysterious “bad boy” way does answer to a deep part of Olivia’s nature that in fact Fitz regardless of his great passion for Olivia, Fitz nature lacks that wild seed that Jake and Olivia share! One can say that Jake also understands Olivia at her deepest core!
If, finally Olivia loves Jake instead of Fitz; by that time Jake may be like Rhett said to Scarlett “frankly Ma’am I no longer give a Damn! And, I do see that kind of strength and masculine stubbornness in Jake because he knows himself to be a Man most women seek, so his present almost slavish devotion to Olivia is really out of character for him, as it was with Rhett regarding Scarlett.
I hope Olivia doesn’t end up like Scarlett, absolutely crushed and heart broken to have foolishly lost who she finally really wants and who is best for her.
I’m an Olitz fan, but Jake for the past several episodes has proven his merit and I’ve also grown to like him a lot, but mostly I want whatever is best for Olivia.
I Love Fitz so I hope they remain as a true Love for each other.

I still feel Fitz is so caught up in himself and his needs and wants that he destroys everyone around him. I don’t care for his character and still agree with Olivia’s father that he is a boy in big man’s pants.
