‘Homeland’ season 4 premiere spoilers: What to expect in episodes 1, 2
Sunday, “Homeland” returns to Showtime with its fourth season, and if you were worried at all about the direction of the series after a subpar outing last fall, here is a quick message for you: Don’t be. Based on what we are hearing right now, this series is back stronger than ever.
The first tease we’ll give you is that the Brody family is gone, as is Carrie on American soil for most of the season. She will instead spend her time working as a Station Chief overseas, and you will see more of what being a CIA agent on the ground is really like. She’ll work with countless new characters, and you will see new villains and stories like you haven’t before. Also, expect a larger role for Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is going to find a role in everything despite being in the private sector right now.
In setting up the episodes ahead to TV Guide, showrunner Alex Gansa shared the following about both the premise, and the opportunity for the series to shake things up and really do something different now after spending so much time dealing with Brody, his family, and his eventual death:
“There’s no question that we closed a big chapter of the show last season when we dispatched with Nicholas Brody, and there’s no question that at the beginning of this year, we really sat down and realized that it was tabula rasa … We have a really fantastic opportunity to take a couple of very significant characters and put them in an entirely new environment. There was something amazingly liberating about it and something that was terrifying about it as well. But clearly we viewed this season as a reset of sorts. The show was going to be fundamentally different than it’s been in the past, for better or for worse.”
The one remnant of Brody is going to come via his daughter, but it is still to be seen whether or not Carrie is actually going to be a good mom.
