NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Jonathan Wyndham, Chris Jamison, Amanda Lee Peers rock
Tonight, “The Voice” hit a few off notes in the early going, given that there were some people who we really think are pure fodder who will go home in the Battle Rounds.
Luckily, things progressed as the episode went along. We had someone in Chris Jamison who is a potential favorite, and also some great singers to come after that. Take a loot at some of the highlights below.
Katriz Trinidad, “At Last” – She could be a serious danger in the competition moving forward. She’s extremely young at 15, has some potential, and hails originally from the Philippines. Never underestimate the power of this audience; we’ve seen it with Jessica Sanchez. Team Pharrell.
Ethan Butler, “Beneath Your Beautiful” – A smooth, soulful performance. Ethan’s probably not the contestant’s best singer, but he’s likable and honest. That goes a long way. He got most of the chairs to turn around, and made the right choice … at least for now. Team Adam.
Taylor Linford, “When You Say Nothing At All” – To be honest, this wasn’t worth a chair-turn, and we feel bad saying that given that Taylor was there last year. The show doesn’t like to embarrass repeat auditions. Maybe Blake will help him grow and work past the nerves. Team Blake.
Jean Kelley, “Already Gone” – This was pretty tough to listen to, mostly thanks to her story and the emotion of the song. She can hit huge notes, and if she can control that a little more, she can be dangerous. Team Gwen.
Chris Jamison, “Gravity” – A really good voice. Seriously. It wasn’t just like John Mayer, and that is difficult to do with this song. We like his charisma, and his story as a college mailman is really fun. Adam is proving this season that telling truthful criticism is important towards getting an artist. Team Adam.
Craig Wayne Boyd, “The Whiskey Ain’t Working” – He’s not just a traditional country vocalist, since he’s got some cool southern rock vibes in there, as well. Pharrell could have been a cool choice here, but come on. Did you really think that he would go anywhere other than Blake? Team Blake.
Toia Jones, “One and Only” – How did she only get one chair to turn around? We’re still a little confused about that. She had a great voice, some power, and stands out from a crowd. She’s got a mentor who seems genuinely interested in believing in her. Team Pharrell.
Amanda Lee Peers, “Put the Gun Down” – We’re shocked that Gwen is the only person who turned around? She is one of those people who possesses more than just a voice, and the only reason she was uncontested was because nobody else could see her rocking out on stage. Team Gwen.
Jonathan Wyndham, “Say Something” – This was very good, but go search for Jay James from “The X Factor.” We’d say that his version wins when it comes to sincerity and emotion. Still, Jonathan was great, and he has everything in the world to be happy about Team Adam.
