‘How To Get Away with Murder’ spoilers: How will the time jumps tie together?
There was a very “Lost”-like quality to the new ABC series “How to Get Away with Murder,” at least in that you have a story taking place in the present, and also a story that is set at another time. In the case of the show, it was seeing the beginnings of Annalise Keating’s class, and then many of the students looking at a specific murder in the future.
So how will the show work structurally in the weeks ahead? This is something that we are going to see so much more of, and it will eventually lead to the murder itself. Speaking to E! News, show creator Pete Norwalk had the following to say:
“We’re going to basically go back and forth between the two times … We’re going to go back to second week of school and we’ll flash forward to that night and we’ll see different pieces of that night until we piece the puzzle together of what happened … I think I want to get to the murder night sooner than end of season. We’ll answer the question of how he ended up dead and who did it sometime in the first season and then we’ll go a little bit beyond that. So she has a love triangle for much of the season.”
We’re fine with the show taking its time before getting us to the big stuff, mostly because there are too many other instances where shows these days try to combine too much into a short period of time. Sometimes, we’re even critical of “Scandal” for this.
