‘Chicago Fire’ season 3, episode 2 spoilers: Will Casey find the right time to propose?

We’ve spent a whole lot of time as of late talking about some of the sadder storylines with the “Chicago Fire” season 3 premiere, in particular what has gone on with the passing of Shay. That is a hard pill for many characters to swallow, in particular someone like Dawson. The two switched places during the explosion, and she is suffering from the “it should have been me” complex that many deal with after a traumatic event.

Some time has passed since her death moving forward into Tuesday night, and this does allow for another question to be raised: Is it time for Dawson to move forward romantically? We know that this moment between her and Casey is coming, and executive producer Matt Olmstead teased it with the following message to TVLine:

“As he articulates to her in the first episode, he hasn’t proposed yet because he doesn’t want that memory tied to any other memories. You’ve got to separate your moments a little. So he’s waited for the dust to settle down a little bit emotionally, and so it’s the right time. They’ve healed up to the extent that they can heal up and function, day to day. They’ll always carry this loss of Shay. And before she goes to her new gig, now’s the time. He does it right.”

That is at least something to look forward to with a smile. Given everything that the characters went through in the premiere, we feel like Olmstead and company are likely prioritizing to a certain extent trying to tell a story that will hopefully not sent you to bed in an extreme depression.
