‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 9 reaction: Anson Mount,
Within Saturday night’s “Hell on Wheels” episode, there was quite a bit we saw unfold … and most of it falls within the category of “very violent.”
For example, we had Cullen Bohannon make the big decision that he was going to take on Sydney Snow and his forces, and try to rescue all the railroad workers in the process. The decision to fight for what he believes in was a tough decision for the character, mostly because he had tried for so long to avoid the gunslinger that was a part of his past.
In the video below, Anson Mount touches on many parts of Cullen’s decision-making in these key moments, including how there was still a part of the character who wanted to go back in time to live out that romanticized life Syd still represents. However, he realized that he cannot go back there, and the only thing left is to move forward.
The fact that Syd is still out there suggests that the battle is far from over, and we know that further to be true thanks to the presence of John Campbell in Cheyenne. The one thing that Cullen got out of this episode above anything else is leverage, and the firepower needed to make a difference in the city. Even still, this is something that weighs on him; while the railroad may be able to establish itself again, lives may be lost in the process. While he is not the one pulling the trigger on these men, the fact someone is may now be hard for him to bear.

Cullen’s wife Is boring and way too young for this relationship. How can a 20 year old advise a 40 year old about life?? It reminds me of a father and daughter. Its absurd and needs to end!! She needs to finally admit the baby is not Cullen’s,( but instead her own father’s), and realize their wedding was not official.(Swede is not a real minister). When all is said and done next season, I would love to see Cullen finally settle down with Ruth.. She has become stronger and matured over the years and serves as Cullen’s conscience. I loved the interaction between the two during Ezra’s death., and cheered to see her behind the gun that shot Syd!! Fantastic image of her standing, all in black, when the smoked finally cleared,, Great ending…love the show!

Hell on Wheels is starting to get really interesting again, so please don’t bring
back Cullins dull Mormon wife. She did nothing to make things exciting, and
she really was not a suitable wife for blevin Cullin. He is far to adventurous, and
exciting to be stuck with a stick in the mud Mormon wife. Please keep
these exciting adventureous series coming. I really look forward to Saturday
night when I can watch Hell on Wheels. Almost all the characters fit so well
with the story. I also miss the ones who have left the series. Thanks Again!
