‘Outlander’ episode 9 spoilers: What to know about show’s future (and season 2)

Tonight, the end is going to be here for what has to be considered a revelation for Starz in “Outlander” … at least for the time being. The good news that we can report is that the series is far from over.

The first thing you should know right now following tonight’s “Both Sides Now” is despite anything that you may assume, the show’s remaining eight episodes (premiering on Saturday, April 4) are still technically a part of season 1. What we may be looking at next year is a case of the series emulating USA’s “Suits” in a way, where last season there was a longer wait between season 3A and 3B than there was between season 3B and 4. The reason Starz is electing to do this may just be as simple as them wanting to stretch out the original programming. They already have “Black Sails” for earlier in the year, and this gives them an opportunity for good ratings in the spring.

Just to let you know how far producers are ahead of the game right, there is already work being done with casting season 2 roles, and we’ll probably learn a good bit about this 13-episode season before season 1B even premieres. We wouldn’t be shocked if season 2 premiered just a few months after season 1, though with the bizarre way that the show has been programmed so far, all bets are really off. The only thing that we can say is that this show will probably be positioned in a way that benefits it tremendously, and we really do not think that the folks at Starz are going to be remotely afraid of holding back episodes, given that it allows for more opportunities for new viewers to get hooked.
