‘Chicago Fire’ season 3: Promotional images changed after Shay shocker

Remember this image? This was what NBC sent out in order to promote the third season of “Chicago Fire,” and to keep things under wraps for as long as possible that the series was going to be killing off a main character.

Now that this has happened, though, the Dick Wold-produced series is making some changes to the way that they are promoting the show moving forward.

To the left, you can see the new version of the key art for season 3, which basically just erases Shay (Lauren German) from the mix after the character was killed off. The only other differences are that the premiere date is erased (makes sense), and someone thankfully brightened up the font color of the teaser “the family burns deep.”

We definitely understand how someone could feel a little bit bummed out by there suddenly being no Shay in the key art, and for good reason. She was an extremely popular person on the show, and she brought a ton of personality.

With that being said, we also understand the logic by NBC here, since they don’t want to give anyone hope that she is coming back or will be a huge part of the show’s future now. It also made sense for her to be a big part of the first wave of promotional material, if for no other reason than that you did not want to put viewers in a position where they actually know what is coming next.
