Ratings: ‘NCIS’ down; ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ decent; ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘The Voice’ impress
The premiere numbers are in for Tuesday, and we’re once again looking at something that should be very familiar by this point: A mixed bag so far as the numbers go.
The winners – You have to start with “Chicago Fire,” which matched the 2.7 demo rating of last season’s premiere. While it has a good lead-in courtesy of “The Voice” (4.0, higher than yesterday’s premiere), this is still great for a show that at one point appeared to be a fringe player for NBC.
Also, we’ll give a tip of the cap right now to “NCIS: New Orleans.” While a 2.5 rating is not necessarily stunning, the 17+ million viewers is something they should be very proud of. This show will be staying put for a while.
Decent performers – “Forever” matched the 1.7 rating that the show had for its premiere, meaning that it may not be completely dead just yet. Meanwhile, “NCIS” drew a 2.9 that is still very good, but down pretty significantly from last year’s premiere. Interest in the show is clearly less, at least among the younger group that CBS cares about.
Also, “Person of Interest” scored a 1.8 rating for the premiere that was okay, but not spectacular.
The losers – Fox is down the toilet already. “Utopia” (0.8) continues to disappoint, while “New Girl” (1.3) and “The Mindy Project” (1.0) both struggled versus last week’s premieres.
Also, we worry about “Agents of SHIELD” after the show premiered to a 1.9. Remember here that this is not a cheap show to make, and this is a show that premiered last year to a 4.7. The only thing that it can blame is poor quality for the first half of last season. Once people leave, it’s hard to get them back.

i think ncis new orleans wasn’t that bad, people usually don’t pay much attention to spinoff’s first premiere.. or maybe not. But i agree, ncis series do have a problem, the headquarter washington is in trouble yep. Used to have no hard feelings for latest season. just thought t was little lame but i got sick of certain pathetic freaks, who were pathetically desperate to prove season 11 didn’t suck that much. Honestly It was the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked u know. And those stupid writers trying again and again to prove ellie bisham whatever is not bad, while the truth is, she’s terrible and a lot of people keep saying that.

And yet, when the Live +3 day ratings were released, NCIS increased to 21.52 million viewers, and a 3.9 in adults 18-49. Maybe, rather than “Interest in the show is clearly less, at least among the younger group that CBS cares about…”, those younger viewers are taking advantage of the technology to watch NCIS at a later time and watch the live show (The Voice) oh, I don’t know, LIVE?
And you are somewhat incorrect when you say CBS cares about the younger viewers. CBS has always skewed higher in age, and they recognise and embrace that. There have been several articles about just that trend, including one less than a week ago in the Washington Post:
www (dot) washingtonpost (dot) com/business/technology/the-power-of-traditional-tv-ncis-and-its-older-audience-deliver-gold-for-cbs/2014/09/24/c4e0f92a-3f4d-11e4-b03f-de718edeb92f_story (dot) html
The Washington Post article also recognises that delayed viewing is becoming the norm rather than the exception, and discusses how CBS is going to start capturing that.

I feel bad for ncis too. season 10 was the best season so far, the ratings were rising, and tiva romance was finally blooming.. What a shame. And Now they lost the fandom’s loyalty by adding that no good Ellie Bishop. She’s like Jar Jar Binks of the show, the Worst Ever. I really hate her, and I’m sure the ratings would have been much better if she was not in the show.

Actually, ratings for season 10 fluctuated wildly between highs and all-time lows. Season 11 ratings were much more stable, albeit lower. However, and what no one seems to ever mention, ratings were down across the board for all networks and most shows. Is that Ellie Bishop’s fault too?
As to this year, with the Live +3 day ratings in, NCIS soared to 21.52 million viewers and a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. I’m sure that, when the Live +7 day numbers are released, the ratings will increase further.

Stable and damn Low you mean. That unstable ratings were much better than season11 missy, not to mention people’s reaction… And you’re wrong about season10. The season 10 was definitely the series peak, the episode shiva’s rating was the most highest, and it was the only season which ranked number 1 as the most watched program in US. And you can’t just say “omg all the other shows ratings gone down too, so it doesn’t matter that we hit the series low and the fans are booing! people these days just don’t watch tv anymore! Not bishop’s fault!!” I too stand by Nel’s opinion. It is Bishop’s fault and she’s gotta go

Missy? Really? Care to be any more condescending?
I never said that Season 10 didn’t have the highest ratings to date. It also had nearly the lowest, at just over 16 million viewers. And with ratings of 18+ million Live + same day and 20+ million Live + 7 day for season 11, I wouldn’t call that “damn low”. I don’t think the network does either.

Ooh yeah right, you call season11’s series lowest rating “just normal! Every other shows were low too! Nobody’s fault!” But picks on season10’s low rating(which was definitely not _series_ lowest) for that! What a joke haha!! You’re telling me Season 11 which was persistenly low, is actually better than season 10 which had ups and downs but in the end brought the show glory of being No.1 in records huh? What a convenient theory. If somebody accuse 11s ratings for being damn low, you just say every other shows were low too and picks on other seasons flaws for not being perfect! lol

Uhm, no, actually, that’s not what I said. I pointed out that yes, NCIS’ ratings were lower in season 11, but so were most shows. I did not affix blame for it; as you do. You seem to think it’s all Ellie Bishop’s fault that the ratings were lower; I point out that there may be other reasons as well. In any case, I suspect CBS is not really that worried, as it is currently the #1 scripted show, and ratings are still 18 million+.
You say that Season 10 was the best ever, with ratings rising – that is incorrect. From the season 10 opener, ratings dropped each week until the middle of November, when they started bouncing around until Shabbat Shalom and Shiva – the two highest rated episodes for the season, granted. After those episodes, which were touted as killing at least one character off, ratings started to fall again to the end of the season.
And I will give you that Shiva was the highest rated episode ever, with 22.86 million viewers. I would also point out, though, that the Season 8 episode Freedom got 22.85 million viewers. I point this out because while, yes, it is a great achievement, it is not the be all and end all a lot of people claim it is.

What is sad but predictable is that the NCIS numbers are down significantly from last year. It did not have to be so had the producers just listened to the large number of ex-fans who could not abide the idiotic and boring character of Ellie Bishop. I know I would give it another try if that character was gone.

And, while the Live + same day figures may be down, the Live + 3 day figures have just been released, with NCIS seeing a large increase in viewers and in the 18-49 demographic. I suspect, for the most part, it’s not that people have stopped watching, it’s that they are delaying watching NCIS so they can watch The Voice live.

I am just telling you why I stopped watching and what would make me start watching again. The reason Is not theoretical. It is not one of many possibilities. It has nothing to do with other programs. I have never watched The Voice. I was simply bored because so much time is filled with the meaningless blather of Ellie Bishop and her silly interactions with the others. I do not claim to represent the missing millions. However, I am a pretty normal person and suspect that some of the drop is due to this badly thought out, badly acted new character. I don’t think anyone would stop watching if they killed her off. I do think a lot of previous fans would return if they replaced her with a new person. That is why I think CBS is stupid. Please have the decency to respect my right to my point of view, my feelings and my right to express them. No need to agree.

I don’t doubt that some of the drop is due to Ziva/Ellie, and I have never said otherwise. What I am saying is that not all of it can be attributed that, and many people continue to insist that it is the only reason for the drop, and that everything would be fine if they got rid of Ellie Bishop. You, yourself, have basically stated that when you say “It did not have to be so had the producers just listened to the large number of ex-fans who could not abide the idiotic and boring character of Ellie Bishop.”
I, and a lot of others, like Ellie Bishop and are enjoying the new dynamic and perspective she brings to the show. I suspect the majority don’t actually care one way or another, quite frankly.
You ask me to respect your opinion, why can’t you extend the same courtesy to me and the others who like what’s happening with the show?
