‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7, episode 2 review: Unser’s big move; Jarry’s plan
Tonight, “Sons of Anarchy” shortened things somewhat for “Toil and Till,” but even without a longer run time, it still contained many important events that could shape the entirety of the series.
The biggest one to us, at least for now, is seeing Unser somehow manage yet again to escape certain death … this time at the hands of Juice. Given that this guy has managed to keep away cancer for so many years, stopping Theo Rossi’s character from keeping him may have been child’s play. Of course, the problem with this is that Unser is a very smart man, and he may be the biggest reason why Juice and Gemma are someday found out for what really happened with Tara.
While Unser was doing this, Jax was still doing his part to get revenge on who he thought to be the responsible parties in the Chinese. There was a ton of violence and action tonight, but this may have actually been the part of the episode that sticks with us the least. Maybe we’ve just been so conditioned to violence on this show at this point.
Now, we turn to Jarry. The reason that we make Annabeth Gish the primary image here is because we feel like this character is going to be the most important new face this whole season when the dust settles. She is already working her way into the town’s politics in record time, and trying to forge a deal with Unser to consult is a big step in that direction. Basically, she is bringing this character back in a way to his roots, and he tells her to not write off this club entirely just yet. She’s an expert at keeping the peace, and we are curious to see how she fits in in a world that is different than when Roosevelt was around.
In the end, the downside to this episode is that it is more of a foundation than something that shatters glass. Juice has shown a refusal to run, Jax is all over the place with SAMCRO, and August Marks learned just how determined the guy really is. We expect something big to happen very soon, and for the events tonight to weigh heavily into that. The only person we’re especially concerned for is Nero; with his affiliation and spending so much time with both Wendy and Gemma, this cannot be good for him. Grade: B.
