‘The Blacklist’ season 2 spoilers: James Spader on questions about Red, Liz, and history

The Blacklist logo any seasonWith the season 2 premiere of “The Blacklist” coming up a week from today, James Spader took advantage of an opportunity to tease the new season. What did he have to say? Surprisingly, that the mystery of who Reddington is in relation to Liz may not be one of the most important subjects of conversation ahead.

Rather, the actor says (per TVLine) that this is something that the show will look to set up over the coming weeks is more along the lines of other issues impacting the two of them. It’s going to be a while before we find out whether or not Red is her father, and we are meant to assume anything from that season 1 cliffhanger:

“That story has not been extrapolated on … That’s something to just let percolate for a bit. Elizabeth Keen has spoken of a memory of being in a fire when she was a child, and somebody pulled her out of that fire. She may be assuming that it’s her father, but we’ve never said whether it’s her father or not.”

Spader added that he wondered if the Keen family tree will become the most important conversation still moving forward, especially as we start to meet more and more people who are connected to this story. Some of them may have ties to Liz and Red that nobody expected, whereas others may be more of the traditional Blacklister of the week.
