‘Outlander’ episode 7 spoilers: How Frank may respond to Claire, Jamie wedding

At the end of this weekend’s new episode of “Outlander,” Dougal makes a suggestion to Claire that could change everything for the character: She can marry Jamie. Survival is almost certainly not the ideal reason for anyone to tie the knot, but in all honesty, isn’t it also so much better than the alternative?

Claire is not the only one who will have a responsible to this potential event, though; this impacts many characters, both in the present as well as the future. (Warning: MAJOR spoilers ahead for non-book readers.)

So how could Frank react potentially to this news? This is something that Tobias Menzies, who plays both this part and Black Jack Randall on the series, explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, citing future events as a reason to potentially not worry:

“I think he would be pretty understanding. My understanding is that Claire, later on in the novels, reappears and is taken back by Frank, even though she’s pregnant and she tells this story of time travel. And for whatever reason, he chooses to accept it and raise a child together, which I think is a pretty big gesture on his part. What’s interesting about Frank is that he’s thoughtful. It’s not the great, most ostentatious of loves. In that respect, he’s overshadowed by Jamie and Claire. But I think [Frank and Claire’s relationship is] deep and meaningful and speaks volumes.”

What we find so interesting about this response is that it certainly represents a major turn in philosophy for how this show handles book spoilers compared to others like “Game of Thrones” or “The Walking Dead.” Granted, these shows have taken major turns in recent seasons away from their source material, but they never want to lead people on to think that a certain outcome may be coming.
