‘Dancing with the Stars’ 19: Julianne Hough defends judging while brother Derek is on show
Even though the new season of “Dancing with the Stars” does not even starting up on ABC until Monday night, no one is waiting that long to let some of their opinions out about the decision to make Julianne Hough a new judge.
Really, the criticisms are many, and varied, when it comes to the move. Our personal biggest concern is that four judges is too many, given you also have two hosts already. Basically, this means that there will be six people talking about every celebrity performing on the night. Seems kind of crammed, no?
There are also those who claim that it is unfair for Julianne to judge her brother Derek while he is a part of the competition. Well, she says not to worry about that. Speaking in an “Access Hollywood Live” interview, she claims that she will actually be “harder” on him because of their experience together, and she explained his advantages and disadvantages:
“I always say he is [good at] the technical, intricate, really detailed stuff — but sometimes you need some show … Sometimes you need a little bit of pizzazz.”
Hough also commented that there could be a sense of overall awkwardness in general, stemming mostly from the fact that she has known many of the show’s pros from competitions as a child and also performing alongside them on TV many years back:
“I think the thing that I hope the fans know, and of course the dancers know, is that we did grow up together, and every day we do have each other’s backs … But with my new role, I do want to be able to say what I need to say. [It] always comes from a loving place. It’s never malicious, I never am just being cruel.”
We” try to give her the benefit of the doubt before the season starts, even if we feel like four judges is still too many.
