‘The Leftovers’ season 2: Don’t expect to see Jennifer Aniston…
We really wish that there were more pre-finale interviews for “The Leftovers” right now, given that what we have instead right now is this: A bunch of articles about Justin Theroux’s junk, and then this story about Jennifer Aniston doesn’t think she will ever be asked to do the show.
Aniston spoke about the show following Amy Brenneman’s recent suggestion that she should appear on the HBO drama to E! News while at the premiere of her new film “Life of Crime,” and she said simply the following:
“That is so funny [that she said I should be on] … I don’t know. I don’t think so. They would never want me on that show.”
This is one thing we do agree on, but we don’t mean that as a slam on Aniston or anything of the sort. The reason why a gig from her wouldn’t work is strictly a matter of keeping the show contained. If you were to put Aniston or a bunch of Brenneman’s former “Private Practice” or “NYPD Blue” co-stars on the show, it would take you out of the world that Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta have created. Instead, stories would be all about the fact that she is there, and people would refer to it as a ratings ploy. (Of course, there is a certain irony to all of this, given that we are writing this story.)
What we personally do want to see at some point is something on “The Leftovers” that does make us smile, whether it be a guest star, a funny scene, or something else. The show may be the most depressing program of the year.
