‘Sherlock’ season 4: Mart Gatiss on writing, acting, Mycroft, and more in Reddit AMA
There is a double dose of good news today when it comes to Mark Gatiss. First, the “Sherlock” executive producer / actor did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit this morning in promotion of his upcoming “Doctor Who” episode entitled “Robot of Sherwood.”
The other good news? That it was far and away better than that one Andrew Scott did a little earlier in the week, which is close to being on the Morgan Freeman / Woody Harrelson level of disappointment. The first thing that we should report here right away is that Gatiss said in the AMA that he is currently working on the script for the upcoming season, so have no fear about whether or not the writing process is on hold. The fourth season of “Sherlock” will begin with a Christmas Special in 2015, and continue from there.
Now, take a look at some other assorted highlights.
- On the similarities between him and Mycroft – “I look like him. That’s a big similarity. Not a lot. I wish I was a millionth as clever as he is. I hope I’m a lot warmer, as a person, than he is. So not a lot, really. He has more hair than me, doesn’t he, at the moment, but that’s another story! In the original stories, Mycroft is very fat, so we’ve given him an ongoing paranoia about his weight, so I did a scene where I ran on a treadmill last year, and I’ve subsequently taken up running, which I enjoy tremendously. So there is that.”
- Favorite “Sherlock” moment – “Favourite moment to film was probably the scene with Martin in the cafe at the end of Scandal in Belgravia. The scene was originally interrupted by the London Riots, but when we came to do it, to finish it off, it was a very touching and affecting scene, I think.”
- On if he prefers writing or acting – “I love doing both. The writing is very satisfying, because it takes an awfully long time, and it’s great to see something come to life. But I also love playing Mycroft, and it’s lovely to hang out with the rest of the cast.”
Of course, we will have some further “Sherlock” news and updates as soon as they become available. For the time being, though, stay tuned, and if you want to get a healthy dose of all things TV sent right to your email inbox, head over to the link here.
