‘The Amazing Race Canada 2’ episode 9 review: Cheesy all around
This week’s episode of “The Amazing Race Canada” may very well qualify for one of the weirdest hours of TV that we’ve ever seen. We’ve got people standing around in the buff trying to win a Fast Forward, cheese-tasting, and then a team on an island in last place being saved by a non-elimination leg.
We like Ryan & Rob a lot as people, but they’re probably right when they say that they really didn’t deserve to be spared again. They broke one of the cardinal rules of the race, and that is going for a Fast Forward when you know going in that there’s a team ahead of you. You are basically relying on the fact that another team will mess it up, and while they didn’t know what was coming, it wasn’t too hard to figure out during their posing that they would probably have to take their clothes off. While Sukhi & Jinder of course had no interest in seeing that much of each other, there was no indication that they were so conservative that they wouldn’t go through with this.
With that being said, it does feel almost like these two guys would have been in last place even if they hadn’t went for the Fast Forward, and the only way they could have escaped this would have been if they had figured out the car course Roadblock in record time … which felt almost impossible given when the two started it.
The Detour this week contained one of the hardest tasks possible, and it revolved all around cheese. Specifically, we’re talking choosing grilled cheese sandwiches by the type of cheese in them. Mickey & Pete soared to second place thanks to this, while Natalie & Meghan struggled somewhat. still, Ryan & Rob did so terribly here that they had to switch and do the boring one making the beads, which Alain & Audrey hammered out well enough that they finished in fourth in their home city.
We like most of the racers left, but despite some of the drama in this leg, it really wasn’t that great in the end. Car challenges are typically boring to us, and we wanted something a little bit different following last week in Paris. Plus, add the weird finish to this where Ryan & Rob are obviously screwed for the future (pending a huge equalizer), and we’re in a strange spot going into next week. Grade: B.
