‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Could Daisy Lewis be the latest departure?
Stop us when this founds familiar: There may be an actor from “Downton Abbey” leaving the show at the end of the season, at least depending on a few factors.
Is this as set-in-stone as some outlets are making it out to be? This is where we are voting “no.” Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Daisy Lewis, who plays teacher and Tom Branson love interest Sarah Bunting on the ITV program, is “moving to America” in order to work on a brand-new acting gig. As for what this means for her and the series, that is something we’ll have to wait and see for.
There are two things that have to be remembered here above all else. First of all, nothing is set in stone, so any outlets saying definitively that she is leaving the show are completely off. Even if she does leave, it’s hard to really blame her. Her role is still relatively minor, even if it increases in screen time this coming season. It only makes sense for her to look for other work elsewhere that could give her more job security.
Still, this is a series with a surprisingly high turnover rate given the amount of critical acclaim behind it. Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens both decided to exit during the third season, and Siobhan Finneran also left after the fact. Meanwhile, reports are that Lily James is going to exit the part of Rose after season 5 in order to better propose her upcoming role as Cinderella in a Disney live-action adaptation.
This new season premieres on Sunday, September 21, so you will not have to wait that long for further details. For now, you can click here to get some further updates and the latest trailer, or here to sign up for more via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
